Ascent: Infinite Realm Offers a Bit of Art and Lore

Things have been generally quiet on the news front for the upcoming Western release of Ascent: Infinite Realm, but a new A:IR lore post on the game’s forums has offered a quick look at some of the background of the game’s world and some of its inhabitants. And, more importantly, the dapper fashions they wear.

a:ir lore post

The post shares a little bit of information about the world of Harth and the people of Nousgard. The world itself was shattered by some Great Catastrophe of indeterminate origin. Players will get to take up the role of a reborn citizen who has lost all of their memories and requires the aid of those around them.

One of these people is a general by the name of Cruz Axis. A member of a distinguished family, Axis gave his leg in the fight against monsters on the floating islands and now serves as one of the earliest contacts players will make.

As for A:IR’s development, things are progressing forward and the team in Korea is making a variety of adjustments after the closed beta test. Information on just what those adjustments are wasn’t detailed in the post, but it was explained that gameplay features and the look and feel of the world are the team’s focus.

Additional teasers are expected to be drip-fed by the devs over the next few weeks. For now, you can feed your eyes some candy in the official forums.

Our Thoughts

Not a lot to report mechanically, unfortunately, but we do have to once more say that the aesthetic style of A:IR continues to impress and entice. We hope that whatever these future teases are, they’ll bring some more information on gameplay soon.

Here’s Some Footage of an Ascent: Infinite Realm Dungeon Run

The Ascent: Infinite Realm closed beta is on in Korea and a lot of Western players are likely hungry for more details on just how the steampunk-fantasy MMORPG functions. Our friends at Steparu have kindly stepped up with some A:IR dungeon footage from within the game’s test.

a:ir dungeon

The video in question is from within a level 20 dungeon in the game and comes from the viewpoint of the Assassin class. Obviously context for the dungeon isn’t available since the UI is in Korean, but there is a dragon battle at the end which can grant interested players a peek at instanced content, combat, and at least one boss fight in the game.

According to the video’s description, the complete dungeon run took about 20 minutes to complete, though the video below is edited down to just over 7 minutes. Those who are interested in seeing a full run are invited to check out Steparu’s YouTube channel. In the meantime, you can take in some dragon stabbing goodness below.

Our Thoughts

There are a lot of similarities one can draw from this footage. Talking amongst ourselves we got a sense of Final Fantasy XIV dungeon encounters while combat looked similar to games like Revelation Online. We’re curious to know your own thoughts on this footage so be sure to share them below.

These Are the Machines of Ascent: Infinite Realm

If the bulk of your game is about using steampunk machinery and airships, then you should probably show them off. A lineup of images of Ascent: Infinite Realm machines has done just that, with a huge selection of images you can peruse in the slideshow below along with details of many of the MMO world’s technological marvels.

As you can see from these images, there is a lot of hardware in Ascent: Infinite Realm, including mechs, jetpacks, mountable cannons, and (naturally) airships. The aircraft in A:IR range in size and purpose including the Ontari and Nous training airship; the five-player Ontari Assault Ship; the Wind Sprinter high-speed personal craft; and a behemoth craft that can carry 75 players into the battlefield of Dragon Valley.

As players progress through A:IR, they can expect to see higher altitudes and growing danger. As such, players will want to further enhance their mounts, airships, and weapons, though the process of how to do so was not part of the press release.

For more detailed information on all of the machines shown, players are invited to check out the official website and look at the news section for more.

Our Thoughts

The variety and scope of machines in Ascent: Infinite Realm are definitely exciting and are only whetting our appetite for this game’s arrival to the West. While the announcement didn’t have any additional news on when we can expect testing to begin, taking a look at all the new toys will have to do for now.

Ascent: Infinite Realm Showcases PvP Combat from G-Star

G-Star has come and gone and with it a whole lot of new Ascent: Infinite Realm gameplay footage from the show floor. A new compilation video with footage captured from fans offers potential Western players a look at how one of the MMO’s touted PvP battles play out.

ascent: infinite realm gameplay

The battle in question appears to play out in three stages, with the first seeing players engage in a chaotic aerial battle, the second with players storming a breached gate, and a third with heavy mech suits airlifted in for an attack against a core.

While the footage, understandably, doesn’t provide much context for the battle, it does offer a reasonably good look at how gameplay operates. At one point during the aerial battle, the controlling player’s small craft is boarded by an enemy player, forcing them to abandon ship and spread their wings. The footage also appears to be taken from the attacking side of the conflict as the defending team appears to continually lose ground.

The official site has promised to share additional information and official translated details as A:IR moves into closed beta in Korea. While the devs are thanking fans for their enthusiasm, they do warn of fan translations that could have inaccuracies or miss crucial information. A timeline for when these updates will come was not provided.

In the meantime, you can whet your A:IR appetite by watching the gameplay footage compilation below.

Our Thoughts

Wow, does that look like a lot of fun! It also looks like the defending team wasn’t really able to effectively defend, which is either a result of poor coordination, imbalance, or maybe just spliced footage from multiple engagements. In either case, we’re most definitely eager to see more of Ascent: Infinite Realm.

Steampunk Fantasy Sandbox MMO Ascent: Infinite Realm Revealed

Kakao Games and Bluehole Inc. have dropped a bomb on the MMORPG world. From a magic-fueled steampunk airship. In a media event leading into G-Star, the sandbox MMO Ascent: Infinite Realm was revealed and confirmed to be heading to Western territories, shining a light on just what Project W is all about.

sandbox mmo ascent: infinite realm

Ascent: Infinite Realm, or A:IR, is a sandbox-style MMORPG with a high fantasy steampunk vibe that melds machinistry and magic. Players can become one of five different customizable classes and command a variety of land and air mounts, including steam-powered mechs, flying creatures, and airships of different styles and types to explore the world.

Customization is a key feature of A:IR, with the ability for players to customize practically everything about their experience. From the difficulty of dungeons and hunting grounds, to the style of weapons and appearance of airships, to your own estate housing space, practically every part of A:IR can be adjusted.

Of course being something of a sandbox, A:IR has its own PvP features. Specifically, the game features RvR combat where most of the battles take place in the skies. Players are encouraged to bring any number and type of airship to the party, and can even coordinate ground-to-air strikes or ground assaults depending on the map and the objective for what is hoped to be a strategic PvP experience.

Ascent: Infinite Realm is looking at the first half of 2018 for its first beta test. The game will initially be available in English, German, and French. You can find out more at the game’s new teaser website as well as take a look at a gameplay trailer below.

Our Thoughts

A lot of us at MMOGames are in love with the sort of high-fantasy steampunk universe A:IR is offering, so naturally we are most eager to find out a lot more about this one as we enter 2018. Hopefully we won’t be left hanging without too much information for too long, because a lot of the activities described and shown off in that trailer look like a huge amount of fun.
