Islands of Nyne Sees Massive Surge in Negative Reviews

Islands of Nyne: Battle Royale

While checking through our list of all the Battle Royale games currently in development we found something rather odd. Islands of Nyne on Steam has seen a huge trend downwards as the recent reviews have been in Steam’s words, Overwhelmingly Negative. In fact, of 281 reviews in the last 30 days, only 6% have been positive. Many of the reviews state that the game has no players and that the developers have abandoned the game. According to Steamspy the average play time in the last two weeks is just 6 minutes. Meanwhile, Steamcharts shows that the last time the game had more than 100 concurrent players was at the end of September. Sadly, it looks like Islands of Nyne may be dead in the water. But, we will, of course, be watching it in the following weeks to see how it performs over the holidays.

PUBG Mobile Reaches $100 Million, But Only Half as Fast as Fortnite

Thanks to a new report from SensorTower we now know that PUBG Mobile has reached $100 million in revenue. It took 192 days for PUBG Mobile to reach that milestone, one that took Fortnite just 90 days. Knives Out, NetEase’s mobile Battle Royale game reached $100 million in player spending in 118 days. Why was PUBG so slow compared to the others? Well, part of that is down to the fact that in China the game isn’t monetized. China is PUBG Mobile’s biggest player base and without them contributing to the revenue it, of course, took longer for PUBG to reach $100 million.

SOS Shutting Down

SOS has announced that they will be shutting down on November 12th after struggling since they announced they would be following the Battle Royale trend and changing the original game. This move proved to be quite unpopular with players and the game never recovered. Players on Steam are now requesting refunds but so far those pleas have been ignored.

WoW Wednesday: Hallow’s End Has Come!

At last, the bells have tolled! Shelter your weak, your young, and your old; each of you shall pay the final sum! Cry for mercy, Hallow’s End has come! With Halloween right around the corner, my favorite Holiday returns to Azeroth to curse the world with devilish glee. Originally created as a harvest festival for the native Lordaeronians known as the ‘Wicker Festival,’ the date also became infamous as the exact date the Forsaken were released from their enslavement to the Scourge. Celebrated by both the Horde and the Alliance, revelers now gather candy, wear spooky costumes, and keep Azeroth safe from the spirit of a dark crusader….

Adventurers in the land of Azeroth have a lot to do as the holiday rolls around, as the meta achievement [Hallowed Be Thy Name] is one of the prerequisites for [What a Long, Strange Trip Its Been…], and will take you through all four continents of Azeroth and the two different timelines of Outland, as well as saving the poor villages of Azeroth from the accursed Headless Horseman; a maddened Knight of the Silver Hand who believes he is the last living man on Azeroth and the rest of the world are undead. No matter your choice of activity in Hallow’s End, there’s tons to do.

The Wickerman Burns in Stormwind and the Undercity, buffing player reputation and experience gains.

For those looking to get the most out of the Holiday, you can cross the world of Azeroth to complete [Hallowed Be Thy Name] and still attain most of the awards intrinsic to the holiday. All of which we’ll detail below.

[Tricks and Treats of Azeroth] will see you crossing the world to every single friendly inn, and trick or treating at their Candy Buckets. You can track this achievement’s completion by tracking [Tricks and Treats of Eastern Kingdoms], [Tricks and Treats of Kalimdor] and [Tricks and Treats of Outland]. While there are Tricks and Treats achievements for the other lands of Azeroth, they aren’t necessary for completing the meta-achievement. They are the easiest way, however, to gather Tricky Treats for other rewards in Hallow’s End. Visiting just one Candy bucket will also reward you with [Trick or Treat!].

[The Savior of Hallow’s End] requires players to complete the Shade of the Horseman event. Lower level players can participate in the Shade of the Horseman event in low-level villages; Goldshire, Kharanos, and Azure Watch will come under siege in Alliance lands, while Razor Hill, Falconwing Square and Brill will feel the Horseman’s wrath for the Horde. Players will be charged in putting out fires and bringing the Shade down to earth in order to save the town. After the fires have been extinguished you can return to a nearby Costumed Orphan Matron and receive a Crudely Wrapped Gift! These will contain masks, candy, rideable objects and more, some of which are necessary for the Hallow’s End achievements.

Hallow's End

The Headless Horseman terrorizes Brill!

[Rotten Hallow] is the last of the quest achievements necessary for [Hallowed Be Thy Name], requiring you to inflict tricks instead of treats upon the enemy faction. Deliver stink bombs and extinguish the Wickerman of the opposing faction while beating back their similar efforts upon your own Capitol City.

[Check Your Head] requires you to stick a Weighted Jack-o’-Lantern on one of each race from both the Horde and the Alliance.  Jack-o’-Lanterns can be looted from Crudely Wrapped Gifts or the Headless Horseman encounter.

The following achievements are dependent on your gathering Tricky Treats:

[Out With It] requires you to eat so many Tricky Treats that you get an Upset Tummy debuff. The amount needed to make your character sick is random, but you’ll generally require less than five.

[G.N.E.R.D. Rage] needs the G.N.E.R.D.S. treat that can come from either a Handful of Tricky Treats from candy buckets or can be purchased for 2 Tricky Treats at holiday vendors. Under the effects of G.N.E.R.D.S., you’ll need to gain 10 honorable kills against the enemy faction. This is easily doable in either Alterac Valley, Isle of Conquest or in open world PvP.

[The Masquerade] requires you to be transformed by other players into specific costumes by a Hallowed Wand. These can be purchased for 2 Tricky Treats each.

[That Sparkling Smile] requires you to use a Tooth Pick, which also costs 2 Tricky Treats.

Naxxy, one of the Holiday’s exclusive pets was added last year for collectors.

The last two achievements can be accrued from fighting the Headless Horseman, which all characters from Level 23 onward can queue for. The Headless Horseman encounter is only available during Hallow’s End and is known for many incredibly rare cosmetic drops. Two of these drops, the Sinister Squashling pet and the Hallowed Helm, are required for [Sinister Calling]. If your luck is poor, you can also purchase both of them for 300 Tricky Treats.

Last, but certainly not least is [Bring Me The Head of… Oh Wait], which requires you to kill the Headless Horseman once in his queueable encounter. It’s also recommended that you work on farming the Headless Horseman daily for his pet, cosmetic, and mount drop, on top of the item level appropriate loot that he can drop for max level players.

This isn’t to say that there isn’t more to the holiday. There are a multitude of pets, masks, costumes, pet costumes, toys, and the ever-elusive Headless Horseman’s Mount to tantalize your inner collector throughout the holiday. And that is only scratching the surface! A multitude of achievements still remain for those looking to increase their count, from collecting all of the masks in [A Mask For All Occassions] to the rest of Azeroth’s Candy buckets in Northrend, the Cataclysm and Pandaria and even finding Pepe’s spookiest attire in [A Frightening Friend].

Hallow's End

Pepe’s Scarecrow Costume, only collectible during Hallow’s end!

No matter how you intend to spend the holiday, this year the festivities are available from October 18th through to the 31st, giving you plenty of time to harass the Horseman for his rare steed.

Play of the Fortnight: Our Top 10 Halloween Terror Skins

Halloween Terror is here, and as we mentioned before, it’s definitely the best time of the year. The Halloween Terror 2018 event brings with it a return of Junkenstein’s Revenge, along with nine new skins. Some of the new skins are extremely high quality. However, there have been pretty amazing skins from the previous years too.

In this Play of the Fortnight, we’re ranking our top 10 favorite Halloween Terror skins from the last three years.

Overwatch Halloween Terror Skins - Jack-O-Lantern Wrecking Ball

10. Pumpkin Mei

Mei has two Halloween Terror skins: Pumpkin Mei, an epic skin from this year, and Jiangshi, a legendary skin from last year. While the legendary skin is much more detailed and unique (and the tiny fangs are adorable), the Pumpkin Mei skin from this year’s event is perfectly in theme with Mei’s aesthetic. Plus, pumpkins will always be Halloween-y.

9. Immortal Soldier-76

Another epic skin as opposed to a legendary one, Immortal Soldier-76 has our favorite merc donning a red leather outfit and an undead, zombie look. Halloween Terror 2018 introduces a new legendary skin for Soldier-76: Slasher-76. However, Genji would have suited this skin much more in our opinion.

8. Van Helsing McCree

The Van Helsing McCree skin from Halloween Terror 2017 is simple but effective. Van Helsing is a character from the original Dracula novel from 1897. He’s featured in multiple vampire-themed movies as a supernatural hunter. McCree makes the obvious choice for this skin.

Overwatch Halloween Terror Skins - Dr. Junkenstein

7. Dr. Junkenstein

The star of the Halloween Terror event, Dr Junkenstein, is played by the enigmatic Junkrat. The crazy white hair, eccentric facial expressions, and shambling gait work pretty well for this skin. Blizzard replaced Junkrat’s usual bombs with liquid canisters, giving him a science-y vibe that fits the doctor. His characteristic giggle adds flare to the Junkenstein’s Revenge game mode, as well. It’s not exactly creepy, but gives a great mad scientist feel.

6. Junkenstein’s Monster

Who else was going to fill the role of Junkenstein’s Monster than Junrkat’s best mate, Roadhog? The skin fits perfectly: the monster was always seen as large and lumbering, fitting the larger-than-life Roadhog character well. Blizzard put their own spin on the monster’s appearance, with a pig snout to emphasize who’s behind the mask.

5. Cultist Zenyatta

Zenyatta is another hero with more than one Halloween Terror skin. Both are pretty great, but the Cultist Zenyatta skin has a lot more detail. Zenyatta dons patterned cultist robes, floating eyeballs around his neck, and a tentacled mask beneath his hood. The skin is clearly a reference to Cthulhu, a Lovecraftian creature from the short story The Call of Cthulhu.

4. Dragon Symmetra

The Dragon Symmetra skin is probably one of the best looking skins Blizzard has designed. However, it doesn’t feel entirely like it fits with the Halloween Terror theme, which is the only reason it isn’t higher in the list. Blizzard changed Symmetra’s entire aesthetic for the Dragon skin. Her belt even resembles the flesh of dragon wings. It doesn’t feel like a true horror skin, but it’s still one of the best designed skins in the game.

Overwatch Halloween Terror Skins - Pumpkin Reaper

3. Pumpkin Reaper

Reaper actually has two legendary skins, unlike most other heroes with multiple skins who have one epic and one legendary. Dracula Reaper fits really well with the Van Helsing skin. However, Pumpkin Reaper takes the quintessential Halloween theme of Jack-o-Lanterns and it’s hard not to appreciate that. It’s certainly a much more enjoyable pumpkin-themed skin than the Hammond Jack-O-Lantern, but I might be biased

2. Banshee Moira

One of the legendary skins from Halloween Terror 2018, Banshee Moira is a stunning addition to the roster. We ranked it so highly because it is perhaps the best fitting skin of all the Halloween Terror skins. Moira is the first Irish hero, and the banshee originates in Ireland. The Irish myth speaks of a woman who wails or shrieks, heralding the death of a family member. She’s often depicted in a cloak, particularly green, but the purple and pale shades of gray and white work well with Moira’s default colors.

Overwatch Halloween Terror Skins - Witch Mercy

1. Witch Mercy

There’s Dr. Junkenstein and Junkenstein’s Monster, but really is there any skin as closely associated with Halloween Terror than Witch Mercy? She’s one of the enemies that show up in Junkenstein’s Revenge, and the witch theme is another more traditional Halloween costume. Witch Mercy has also seen a lot of cosplay and fan creations associated with it. Knitemaya’s cosplay of Witch Mercy is a fantastic example!

Honorable Mentions

Overwatch Halloween Terror Skins - Totally 80s Zarya

Pharah’s recent Enchanted Armor skin from this year’s event is really well designed. With this skin, Blizzard was clearly making a reference to the armor sets often seen in old (possibly haunted) mansions in movies. Totally 80’s Zarya almost made the list, but it suffers from the same problem Dragon Symmetra has: she doesn’t really fit the horror or Halloween theme. However, those legwarmers and neon purple leopard print leggings are on point.

Some of the epic skins are also worth highlighting. Skullyatta and Ghoul Ana are both skins with minor changes that remain highly recognizable as their original heroes. Blizzard released these skins as part of the first ever Halloween Terror event, and even though they’re not complete redesigns, they are both oft-used skins.

Closing Thoughts

Overwatch Halloween Terror Skins - Banshee Moira

Blizzard’s skin team has been outdoing itself lately. Most of their newer skins have been much higher quality, which is good since they’ve reduced the number of skins they release each event. However, we can’t forget about skins from the previous Halloween Terror events. While this year’s Banshee Moira stood out as an amazing addition to the event skins, the first two events had some amazing skins as well.

In fact, from the first Halloween Terror event, Witch Mercy is definitely deserving of our top spot. We also rank the classic Dr. Junkenstein and Junkenstein’s Monster in our top 10 Halloween Terror skins.

What’s your favorite Halloween Terror skin from the last few years? Let us know in the comments below what your top picks are!

WoW Wednesday: How to Make Gold With Hallow’s End

Hallow’s End only has one week left before it’s gone again. Tension is rising in many players hoping they can get the Horseman’s Reins before the Holiday ends, forcing them to wait another whole year to try again. Instead of farming that elusive mount, I thought I would share how I spend my Hallow’s End making a ton of gold. Hopefully, these tips can help you gain some extra gold and take your mind off that horrid mount farm. I have to give a fair warning first; these gold tips aren’t some get rich quick scheme. You will have to do some farming and it will take some time to sell these items, but it is well worth it. The more time you put into these farms, the more gold you will make. Here are a few tips on how to make gold with Hallow’s End.

Pet Farming

Hallow’s End introduced a new battle pet this year called Naxxy, and boy is that great news for us gold farmers. Naxxy costs 150 Tricky Treats, there are other battle pets that you can buy for the same amount but because Naxxy is new this is the pet we will be focusing on. You can purchase Naxxy from Pippi outside the Stormwind City gates for Alliance and Woim outside the Undercity for the Horde. The simplest and easiest way to get this pet is to download the addon Candy Buckets which will show you all of the candy buckets you haven’t looted yet on Azeroth. My recommendation is to just do the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor buckets, as doing these will give you more than enough Tricky Treats to buy Naxxy. It takes me about an hour and a half to two hours to collect all the buckets per character, depending on how much I’m paying attention to my flying.

How to make gold with Hallow's End

I do this farm about once a day whenever I’m bored and catch myself just flying around Dalaran. These buckets do not respawn, so to be able to farm multiple you will need multiple characters. I’m sitting on five pets at the moment that I plan to sell over the next year as prices rise, but we will get to that at the end of the article. Let’s take a look at our next farm which will be our biggest money maker.

Coin of Many Faces

The Coin of Many Faces is a toy only obtainable during Hallow’s End. The on-use ability is as follows: “Become someone else.” This will give you a random appearance that will last for 1 hour. It also has a 1 Day cooldown, but this is hands down my favorite toy. It will pretty much transform you into a random race, regardless of faction with a random set of armor. To farm this toy you have to head over to Shadowmoon Valley in Draenor. There is an island to the southwest with the coordinates [39, 80] that has Hallow’s End-only mobs. These mobs have a little over 1% chance to drop the toy.

How to Make Gold With Hallow's End

This farm is better done in a group of five because of the whole personal loot thing now, but if you’re somebody like me that doesn’t care to look for groups, you can still have a decent farm doing it solo. I have found that the best class to farm these on is a Druid, but of course, any class is capable of doing it. My goal is to spend an hour each day doing this farm stocking up as many Coin of Many Faces as I can. I currently have two banks filled with these toys. My plan is to do the same as the pets and sell them over the course of the next year as prices rise.

Another option that you have is to check the auction house when you’re bored and see what these toys are currently going for. I have been buying out coins that are around 2,500 gold or lower. It might seem like a lot now, but I have seen these toys go for around 35 to 58 thousand gold.

If you’re familiar with the auction house you can even try and force the prices down yourself by undercutting constantly, causing prices to drastically drop and allowing you to buy out this toy for a much cheaper price. This will, however, force you to sell many coins at a low price but if done correctly, you will come out with more coins than you previously had. This strategy does have a chance to fail, so I do not recommend this strategy to players that don’t know how to play the auction house.

Final Comments

This is hands down my most profitable holiday. Again, I cannot say this enough, this IS NOT going to be a quick gold gain. It will take time to sell these items, but it will be well worth it. Over the next year you must check the going prices for these two items constantly to make sure you are making a profit and that these prices don’t start plummeting. Do not sell any of these items while Hallow’s End is still current, I would even say not to sell them next month as the prices will still be pretty low.

The last little bit of gold making you can do while Hallow’s End is active is selling wand charges to players that are trying to get the achievement The Masquerade. This achievement requires players to be transformed by different Hallowed Wands. You cannot use a wand on yourself so you have to rely on other players’ help with this one. The easiest way to gain wands is from the Candy Buckets I mentioned in the pet farming section. If you did the pet farm you should have most, if not all of the wands they will require. I have charged for as low as 200 gold up to 500 gold per wand charge. It might not seem like a lot at first, but after a few pet farms you end up with a lot of wands, and there are a lot of players looking to get that achievement. The closer the holiday is to ending the more players will pay.

Thank you for reading this article on how to make gold with Hallow’s End. If you have any questions or would like to know about any other of my many gold farms, please feel free to ask in the comment section below and happy farming!

The Tyrian Chronicle: Guild Wars 2 Halloween Items You Must Get Now

Halloween is upon us and the Shadow of the Mad King event is back once again in Guild Wars 2. While I highly encourage everyone to take part in all the festivities at least once, that isn’t what this article is going to be about. Instead, I want to focus on the items you can only get during the Guild Wars 2 Halloween event and how to get them.

Guild Wars 2 Halloween Mount Skins

I’ve made these lists easy for you to copy and paste into any spreadsheet software. Just highlight what you want, copy, and paste. I’ve excluded any items you can buy from the trading post as well as any that come from the gem store as they can be obtained (almost) any time you like. There are quite a few items that are new this year. In particular, there are full sets of armors and weapons which are only obtained by achievements during Halloween. Be sure to start working on the weapons right away as they take a few days to grind out each one and progress can only take place during Halloween.

Don’t forget to do the achievements as well! Many are repeatable so you can keep getting the rewards over and over again.

MMO Halloween Events in 2017

It’s nearly time for Halloween and that means it’s nearly time for one of the best festivals in any MMO. Here’s our list of every MMO Halloween event, the dates it will take place, and what you’ll be able to do. We’ll be updating the list regularly throughout the month so make sure to come back again soon.

EverQuest 2: Nights of the Dead (October 4 – November 2)

Nights of the Dead return once again to Everquest 2 this time with an all-new event called Wake the Dead. In it, you’ll grab a shovel and scare up some tricks and treats in the cities. There are also new items to purchase, new achievements to complete, and a new collection to go after. In addition to all of that, you can enjoy a new yearly quest called Broken Mirrors.

Hearthstone: Hallow’s End Fireside Gathering (October 9 – November 5)

Hearthstone has something special in store this year for players who attend a Fireside Gathering during Hallow’s End. Hearthstone’s newest hero, Nemsy Necrofizzle will be available for free if you play any Fireside Brawl at a Fireside Gathering Tavern. These are being held all over the world in cafés, bars, and really any public space. If there isn’t one being held near you consider putting one together. All you need are 3 unique players.

Otherland: Halloween Event (October 16ish – ?)

Halloween is coming to Otherland sometime the week of October 16th. The exact date hasn’t been announced yet. There will be 3 unique bosses to defeat and 3 different pumpkin collecting quests. You’ll also be able to get your hands on 4 limited time costumes and special walls and floors for your apartment.

Guild Wars 2: Shadow of the Mad King (October 17 – ?)

Shadow of the Mad King returns once again to Tyria. The highlight of the event is the labyrinth. But you’ll also be able to join in on games of Mad King Says and try to get to the top of the Mad King’s Clock Tower. Scattered throughout Tyria are candy corn nodes and in Kryta you’ll be able to go trick or treating at magical doors.

Maplestory: Midnight Monster Bash (October 18 – November 7)

Maplestory is kicking off a season of events that will keep players busy through the end of November. It starts of course with Halloween. Collecting candy and fighting a giant pumpkin are just two ways to take part. There’s also the Trick or Treat chair and the Cat-O-Lantern. After Halloween is over they’ll have several more events, including a Thanksgiving event. Making it one of the few MMOs that do a Thanksgiving event.

Black Desert Online: Halloween in Wonderland (October 18 – ?)

Alice in Wonderland is a wonderfully weird story and perfect for the Halloween season. Black Desert Online is tackling this tale with Halloween in Wonderland. You’ll be able to find new seasonal outfits, pets, a boss to fight, and more.
