LOTRO VIP Subscribers will be able to get a special gift all month long, just for logging in. When anyone with an active VIP subscription logs in before the end of September they’ll be gifted with a free Armour of the Isengard Dispeller cosmetic set. Each of your characters will have to be logged in individually to get the set on them. The item will be found in your inventory. This gift will be available until September 30th for VIP and Lifetime VIP Subscribers. The items are Bound to Account, but getting them couldn’t be easier.
In addition to that from now until the 12th of September, you’ll be able to get 20% off select expansions and expansion quests, Enhanced XP Supply, HornburgToken, Skirmishes, Instances, and the 100% Mark Acquisition Boosts.
There’s also a new item to be found in the LOTRO Store, the Enduring Universal Toolkit.
The weekly coupon, which also lasts until September 12th will get you a Tome of Tracking. To get it use the code TRACKINGTOME in the store.
The armor is proving to be quite popular at the moment, so if you hope to stand out from the crowd…well, still get it, but maybe don’t put it on just yet or else you’ll end up looking like everyone else. It’s fantastic that the developers are offering free gifts to VIPs like this as an incentive to keep their subscriptions going. There are a lot of MMOs out there that could do with this sort of thing.

Since late last year we’ve been hearing about a new Lord of the Rings MMO in the works with Leyou Technologies, well it seems that Amazon is getting on the Lord of the Rings MMO as well. Today it was announced that the two would be collaborating and co-developing the MMO.
Thanks to the press release announcing this we also know that the game will be free to play and won’t be related to the upcoming Amazon Prime show. The two companies will develop the game in a joint effort and then it will be marketed and published by Amazon globally, with the exception of China.
A Dwarf in LOTRO, the other Lord of the Rings MMO
“We’re committed to bringing customers games of the highest quality, both with our own original IP as well as beloved cultural pillars like The Lord of the Rings,” said Christoph Hartmann, VP, Amazon Game Studios. “Tolkien’s Middle-earth is one of the richest fictional worlds in history, and it gives our team of experienced MMO developers – from the same studio developing New World – tremendous opportunity to play and create. We have a strong leadership team in place to helm this new project, and we’re actively growing our team to help build this incredible experience.”
“Bringing Middle-earth to life necessitates having the very best partners, and Amazon’s customer obsession, technology, and talented teams make it the ideal choice for a co-developer and publisher,” said Alex Xu, CEO of Leyou Technologies Holdings. “We believe our combined resources and expertise will result in a beautiful and compelling game that customers will love and play for years to come.”
Sadly at this point, we still don’t have anything resembling a release date. But it is safe to assume we are still several years away from the game being playable.

Though Lord of the Rings Online is still going strong, the MMORPG is also getting a bit long in years, arguably. So perhaps word of a new Lord of the Rings MMO isn’t too much of a surprise. That said, an announcement of plans to develop the new title still came a bit out of left field.
The game in question is coming by way of Athlon Games, a publishing arm of Chinese company Leyou Technologies, which has a piece of the action MMO Warframe. Athlon has entered into a partnership with Middle-earth Enterprises to create the game, which is described as a free-to-play MMO set in the fiction’s universe.
Specifics on what this game will involve are slim, understandably, but the announcement did confirm that the new MMO will take place in the years leading up to the events of the Lord of the Rings series of books. The announcement also promises fans will get a “new, immersive game experience for epic exploration of the Tolkien universe.”
Those are the most salient details as of right now and we expect that there will be a significant span of time between now and any more concrete details on the shape of this new MMO. That said, we’ll be sure to keep eyes on this one as details emerge.
So on the one hand, awesome, new MMO based on one of fiction’s most rich universes! On the other hand, some folks might have more than a bit of trepidation regarding this new publisher and its generally unknown status. In either case, time will have to tell the tale on what this new Lord of the Rings MMO will end up looking like.
