As the starting location for Ship of Heroes, Apotheosis City has a lot to do; it has to set expectations for the game as a whole, set the scene, and be friendly to both new arrivals and veterans alike. While we can’t personally speak about whether this zone does that, we can certainly say one thing thanks to a new Apotheosis City map; it’s pretty damned big.
Apotheosis City is described as being larger than the starting maps in City of Heroes and SWTOR’s entry planets, or approximately the same size as Fortnite Battle Royale’s map. While the city is broken up into zones, it’s still an open-world area. The FHS Justice (AKA the actual Ship of Heroes) is made up of 20 levels and sublevels of similar size, which will each have their own function and appearance.
According to the developer write-up provided to Massively Overpowered, the first zone of Ship of Heroes has hit a point of development where it can be shared with the world. The map in question still is missing a couple of specific zones, but the devs expect at least a dozen areas for players to explore.
In spite of this near-complete look of Apotheosis City, the devs still have updates on the way in April and May, with additional zone teases planned later.
Apotheosis City has definitely come a long way since we last had a guided tour, which is awesome to see. 20 levels of the same diameter definitely sounds like a daunting amount of content to develop, but we hope that the devs of Ship of Heroes are up to the challenge and we’re looking forward to future updates.
