If you’re a regular player of MapleStory, then you’re very obviously familiar with the Black Mage, the primary baddie of the game’s storyline. Now, players will get to make their move against this foe with the Gathering of Heroes event.
From now until November 28th, players can enter the Maple Alliance outpost where leveling events await in order to prepare for the confrontation against the Black Mage. Participating also brings “Determination” to the outpost, which is ultimately part of what opens the fight against the big bad.
One of the leveling events in question is the Tera Burning Project, which asks players to create a new character and list them as a Tera Burning character. Doing so gives that character two levels every time they level up until they reach level 200 and even grants them a Snail Pet.
If you’d rather keep an existing character and they’re level 61 at minimum, you can still head to the outpost and accept a quest that opens up new areas with new monsters to fight. Those who are already level 200 can also contribute by fighting hordes of monsters and a powerful foe who blocks the way forward in Moonbridge.
Complete details on the event and its rewards can be read here.
We’re not sure how many people will take to making a new character, even if they do earn double the levels. Then again, that does seem like an interesting way for the lower level player to join in on whatever this Black Mage fight will end up being like.
It’s been all but released at this point, but now it’s official. Later tonight, the MapleStory M worldwide launch will be live at 7pm PT, arriving to North America and 140 countries around the world.
MapleStory M is offering mobile gamers 150 levels’ worth of content, including new classes and an automatic battle and quest function for those who maybe don’t have a lot of time on their hands. Other features that fans of the MapleStory series have come to expect will also be in play, including plenty of character customization, dungeons, pets and mounts.
To celebrate the title’s global launch, a number of events are being held by the MapleStory M team. Players who login to the MMO in the next 14 days will get special in-game items until August 21st, which also happens to be the date those who pre-registered for the game will get their rewards. There will also be extra rewards on offer for those who stream MapleStory M; folks interested in that are advised to keep their eyes on the game’s Facebook page.
Those who are looking for more details can head over to the game’s website.
A game like MapleStory really does seem tailor-made for the platform of mobile gaming, so we suspect that this new pocket version of the popular MMORPG will do pretty well overall. Of course, we’d rather not take advantage of those auto-battle and auto-quest features, but that’s just us. No judgement if you do.
The original side-scrolling MapleStory MMO is kind of a perfect fit for a mobile title, and now players of the West will get to know whether that is indeed the case. Nexon America has confirmed an expanded MapleStory M Western release, bringing the Korean mobile adventure to more players around the globe outside of its previously soft-launched locations.
MapleStory M is a unique title that takes numerous cues from the original MapleStory MMORPG, along with a variety of the same features such as rich cosmetic customization options, a variety of familiar locations, open-world live events, and a 10-player raid.
“We set out to create a unique experience for mobile without sacrificing anything that made MapleStory special,” reads a statement from Nexon America’s president Jungsoo Lee. “We’ve been optimizing MapleStory for mobile devices and I think both hardcore gamers and casual fans will find the experience just as gratifying and fun as MapleStory.”
Players who are ready to get started are invited to pre-register and will unlock an in-game gift box filled with goodies for doing so. In addition, five lucky players in the US and Canada (except Quebec) who share the announcement trailer on social media will get their choice of an iPhone X 64GB or Samsung Galaxy S9 64GB.
MapleStory M will arrive as a free download on Google Play and Apple later this year. As for that trailer, you can check it out in the embed below.
Yeah, MapleStory classic definitely feels like a game suited for mobile play, so we’re absolutely looking forward to this game’s release. Considering MapleStory 2 will likely be one of the bigger games for fans on PC, it’s nice that the original title is getting something of a second life through this mobile release.

Which is the best MMO Halloween Event? Your vote will decide…
MMO Halloween continues to spread across the digital landscape like an awesome, chilly blanket. This time around it’s MapleStory Halloween, as a new event is detailed along with some returning favorites for players of the MMO.
The new event is the Midnight Monster Bash, which sees players collecting candy, fighting a giant pumpkin monster, and earning rewards in the process. Players can also set up a trick-or-treat chair that others can click on to receive candy. Those whose altruism earns them spots on a trick-or-treat leaderboard will be granted special in-game rewards. Everyone will also receive an adorable Cat-O-Lantern pet that offers stat boosts. Feed the Lantern candy and it will grow and change appearance as well as offer increased boosts.
The Monster Bash isn’t the only event running through the season. The Madhouse Dungeon, Murgoth Dungeon, and Dark Lords of Darkness encounters will all be making a return, along with the Maple Music Festival and the Thanksgiving Food Fight.
The Midnight Monster Bash runs from October 24th through November 7th, while the vast majority of the other events will kick off on Wednesday, October 18th. More information can be found on the MapleStory website and a trailer for the Monster Bash is available below.
If an event in-game is being run by someone named HallowKitty, how could anyone possibly resist? It sounds like the players of MapleStory will have a very busy several weeks ahead of them and we hope they have an awesome time.
