The tonfa is a melee weapon that is believed to have originated in China and was used extensively with martial arts forms that came from Okinawa, Japan. They are blunt objects, usually measuring about 15-20 inches in length and wielded in pairs. Don’t let any of that distract you from the new Closers Soma trailer showing the new character’s hyper-tech bladed tonfas, though.
Soma is the latest member of the Wildhüter team, described as a tonfa-wielding demolisher that harbors a deep hatred for dimensional monsters. The use of her tonfas allows her to lash out with lighting-fast combinations and heavy-hitting attacks.
As is often the case with a new character to Closers, there’s a new event alongside Soma’s release. Between now and Tuesday, November 6th those who get a Soma character to level 20 net themselves 500 EMP. There’s also leveling goodies for Soma to get and 20 days’ worth of login rewards to mark the MMO’s closed beta anniversary.
In addition to Soma’s arrival, the folks at Closers have seen fit to set up yet another Gleam giveaway. From October 30th until November 13th, players who tick off a number of activities can be entered to once again win a Razer Blade 15 laptop for the grand prize as well as a 2nd place prize of 15,000 EMP.
Yep, she’s another quick and flashy character. We do have to wonder at what point players of Closers stop getting invested in seeing new arrivals to the game’s roster and whether they’d like to see more content pursuits instead. Do you feel that way? Let us know in the comments.
Closers sure does like its roster additions. The side-scrolling anime brawler MMO will once more be adding to its character list with the arrival of the new Closer Wolfgang, along with German language support for players in the country.
Wolfgang is a member of the new Wildhüter Closers team and wields a weapon called the Black Book, which he uses to unleash powerful dark magics and dimensional monsters on his foes. He also wears a pretty spiffing coat while doing it.
The new German character coincides rather nicely with the MMO’s German language support, which will also be launching as a test pilot for players in the region. This test pilot will have most of the core aspects of the game translated and will be discussed in the coming weeks.
Players will have to wait until Tuesday, August 28th to use this new character, but until then you can watch Wolfgang wield words as weapons in the trailer below.
I wish I was born with silvery hair… On point, this new character looks like yet another stylish addition to an admittedly stylish roster of characters, though we wonder if there won”t be more arriving to Closers in terms of content soon. We suspect that fans of this title would probably like to have more to do with their existing characters instead of playing the entire game over with a new character, but we could certainly be wrong in that assumption.
The votes were tallied in the Tina vs. Harpy event and it turns out players would like to play as a ranged weapon-using robot inexplicably designed to look like a young girl. Yes, the new Closer Tina has now made her official debut to the side-scrolling action MMO starting today.
Described as a combat cyborg with elite marksmanship skills and the ability to control Phase Power, Tina brings some long-range output to the Closers roster. Tina excels against airborne opponents and uses her powers to call in a huge assortment of different ranged weapons to blow away her targets.
To celebrate the new arrival, Closers is hosting another series of giveaways and limited events for players full of consumables and other stuff to earn. All of the details on these events can all be read about on the Closers website.
For those who were rooting for Harpy’s arrival, don’t fret: the card-slinging Closer is due to land to the game sometime in May. Meanwhile, you can take in Tina’s form of combat in the trailer below.
Brow-wrinkling character design choices notwithstanding, the form of assault that Tina is able to dish out looks like it’s both a fair bit of fun and useful to players of Closers in certain encounters. We hope that fans of the game like the new addition…or if they don’t, here’s hoping that Harpy will be more to everyone’s liking.
Today’s update for Closers has something for people who like teenagers swinging chain blades around and sporting blue-green hair somehow. Nata, the newest addition to the roster of playable characters in Closers, is now available for the anime action MMO.
A member of the rogue Closers group the Wolfdogs, Nata was drafted into service against his will and lashes out (literally) on enemies in the battlefield. Nata attacks with a pair of chained kukris that let him swipe and spin at multiple foes from a short distance.
Nata’s arrival is mentioned to be part of planned monthly updates to Closers, which will see free DLC updates as well as community events. The next such event lined up is a “Tina vs. Harpy” community contest, where players will get the opportunity to vote on the next arriving character. Details on that can be expected in the next few weeks.
In the meantime, you can learn more about Nata here, or watch a recent trailer with him in action below.
There’s just something about a smart-mouth cocky bastard that video game character designers love, isn’t there? In spite of that, Nata most definitely looks like he can dish out some very serious and very fast hurting, so we hope that Closers fans find a lot to love in this new character’s arrival.
