Final Fantasy XIV Posts Preliminary Patch Notes for 4.1

The first major content update post-Stormblood is now just a few days away and fans can get a clearer picture of what to expect with a set of preliminary 4.1 patch notes, which include details on nearly everything arriving with the update.

4.1 patch notes

As is often the case with FFXIV’s patch notes, they go into great depth on everything from the minor – like new hairstyles, emotes, mounts, and UI adjustments – to the major, such as initial details on required minimum item level for entry into new group content.

Of specific interest to many players are a number of buffs and adjustments for Dragoon, Warrior, Ninja, Summoner, and Scholar, new PvP battle actons, the costs of the new housing plots in the Shirogane district, more in-depth details on how Adventurer Squadron content is accessed, and a whole lot more.

There’s a lot of ground to cover, so be sure to head to the game’s official website to get all of the details you need (and perhaps some you weren’t expecting).

Our Thoughts

As Final Fantasy XIV patches go, this one seems slightly leaner than most. Still, there’s definitely a lot for players of the MMORPG to chew on here and certainly lots to look forward to. If you’re a fan, here’s hoping you enjoy! And here’s hoping the initial housing land rush in Shirogane is kind to you.

Final Fantasy XIV Shows Off HUD Adjustments

We’re a week away from the next content patch for Final Fantasy XIV as of this writing and there’s definitely a lot to look forward to. Perhaps one such quality-of-life feature is the new adjustments coming to the Final Fantasy XIV HUD, which were detailed in a dev blog.

The latest developer blog takes a deep dive into the variety of ways players will get to arrange their HUD when 4.1 hits. Players will be able to increase HUD element size to 200%, break up target information into three separate windows, and split buff and debuff information into separate windows as well as increase the amount of buffs/debuffs that can be displayed at once.

The overall HUD adjustment window will also see a number of improvements, including a drop-down list to let players resize things instead of hitting CTRL+Home or the R3 button. The majority of the new HUD options will be accessible from windows as well instead of combinations of key or button presses.

You can check out full information about “HUD Layout (Extreme)” on the Final Fantasy XIV dev blog.

Our Thoughts

It’s a minor thing in the grander scheme of new content for Final Fantasy XIV, but as we’ve mentioned before, many times the smallest quality-of-life feature can make the biggest improvements. We’re certain that a lot of players of this MMO will welcome these new options.

Final Fantasy XIV Patch 4.1 Gets a Release Date

It’s been another edition of the Live Letter from the Producer for FFXIV and with it comes a slew of new reveals for the MMO’s next update, including the release date for Final Fantasy XIV patch 4.1.

Players will now be able to delve into dungeons with their Grand Company Squadron members. The new feature will let players enter a total of five dungeons with themselves and three other Squadron members and is open to Squadrons who have achieved at least Rank 2. Players will be able to determine how their Squadron’s AI will operate, as well as issue orders to attack, fall back, or engage a Limit Break.

An Extreme difficulty of Shinryu’s Domain is arriving this patch, along with a new Ultimate version of the Coil of Bahamut. The harder Shinryu fight is described as more difficult than Susano and Lakshmi extreme and will reward a new weapon, while the new Coil of Bahamut will require item level 340 and a clear of Deltascape Savage 4.0, and will reward players with a token that can be turned in for a weapon.

PvP’ers are getting a new mode in 4.15 with the introduction of Rival Wings, a MOBA-esque mode where two teams battle it out to destroy their opponent’s core. The mode will let players summon controllable giant machina by collecting items to recharge them. There is a limit to how many machina can be called forth per team, and machina come in several varieties such as machines that excel in attacking players or attacking structures.

Patch 4.1 will also introduce the new Lost Canals of Uznair treasure rooms, several HUD updates, new Kojin Beast Tribe quests, a new Hildibrand quest line, and a variety of class adjustments which will be detailed in the patch notes.

Patch 4.1 is set to arrive to Final Fantasy XIV on Tuesday, October 10th. You can check out the summary for the Producer’s Live Letter here, and watch a trailer for the patch below.

Our Thoughts

You got MOBA in my MMORPG! But, as always, this looks like another stellar content update for Final Fantasy XIV and we’re eager to get started. Which piece of content are you looking forward to most?

Final Fantasy XIV Provides First Details of Patch 4.1

With the tide of war beginning to ebb away after the events of Stormblood, fans are likely curious to know what’s next for Final Fantasy XIV. It just so happens that a new Patch 4.1 teaser site has a couple of answers. Or at least a couple of hints of answers. It’s a wee bit vague, really.

patch 4.1 teaser

The new site is loaded with several new screenshots, artwork, and lore primers for the upcoming patch, which has been subtitled The Legend Returns. As per the usual, the new patch will offer the next story beats of the MMO’s main scenario quests, as well as a new dungeon, the official opening of the Shirogane housing district, and the Return to Ivalice raid, which features guest creators Yasumi Matsuno (Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy XII) and Keita Amemiya (Moon Over Tao, GARO).

Additional details are expected to be released soon, including a trailer for Patch 4.1 next week. The Legend Returns will arrive to players sometime in early October. Until then, you can take a look at the information available as of this writing here.

Our Thoughts

As ever, the content cadence of Final Fantasy XIV continues to shame many other MMOs. We’re definitely looking forward to learning more about Patch 4.1, especially the new raid; considering its backstory and the references to the world of Ivalice, this piece of content could be very intriguing indeed.
