If it has been awhile since the last time you played Vainglory, a lot has changed. There are, of course, tons of new heroes, tweaks to old ones, talents, additional game types, and now the Golden Ticket. While I’ve always thought that Vainglory was the best translation of the MOBA onto mobile devices, it lacks that traditional 5v5 gameplay that has really defines the genre. When I’ve discussed the game with others, there’s usually a sentiment along the lines of ‘Vainglory is fun but it doesn’t feel like Dota or League of Legends.’
The Vainglory Golden Ticket
Well, that’s about to change. A true 5v5 MOBA game mode is coming to Vainglory this winter and players with a Golden Ticket will have access before everyone else. On December 17, 2017, Vainglory 5v5 will be unveiled at the World Championship.
According to Super Evil Megacorp, the ability to deliver a strategic 5v5 MOBA with high frame rates and responsive controls simply wasn’t feasible with the mobile technology when the game was first introduced in 2014. Things have clearly changed since then, mobile devices have become more powerful, and now is the time for Vainglory 5v5.
However, if you want to get your hands on the new game mode you’ll either need to be lucky or have some patience. After the unveiling of the 5v5 game mode at the Vainglory World Championship on December 17, players will have a chance at obtaining a Golden Ticket by pre-registering, completing quests, or opening special holiday-themed boxes. The Golden Ticket will provide early access to the new 5v5 mode while it becomes polished and all of the bugs are worked out.
Pre-registering is completely free and can be done through this link. The daily quests are also free and there is a small chance they will contain a Golden Ticket. Finally, players who want to support Vainglory by purchasing loot boxes also have a chance of obtaining a ticket, but the odds will remain quite low. Finally, MMOGames has teamed up with Super Evil Megacorp and we have a handful of Golden Tickets to giveaway as well. Simply follow the instructions at the bottom of this article.
Depending on how long it’s been since the last time you checked out Vainglory, there have been a ton of new additions and updates. In order to help players progress and unlock cosmetic items, seasons and daily quests were implemented that grant Glory, skins, and chest keys. Brawl game modes were also added to give more variety and support a quick, mobile playstyle.
Battle Royale is a 10-minute mode where players start at level 4, begin with 2000 gold, and can only fight in the top lane. Blitz is a 5-minute match that focuses on objectives and team fights. The first team to reach 15 points, or the highest score after 5 minutes, wins. The most recent update added Onslaught, which is a best of five arena. There are no lanes or minions, just a fight to the death.
Additionally, heroes now have Talents that can be used in any of the Brawl game modes. Talents can be acquired from the market, quests, and other chests. They enhance the abilities of heroes and can even be leveled up. For example, Celeste’s Core Leaf Clover talent causes Core Collapse to create four black holes instead of one. While these can provide a potential advantage for players with high-level talents, they can’t be used in the competitive 3v3 mode.
Vainglory World Championship
The 12 best Vainglory teams are about to battle it out at the Kallang Theatre in Singapore from December 14 – 17. Featured will be some of the top eSports organizations from around the world including Team SoloMid, Cloud9, Echo Fox and the reigning world champions: Rox Armada. There’s a lot on the line this year as the prize pool has been increased to $140,000. Be sure to tune into the official Vainglory Twitch channel to catch all the action of the World Championship and revealing of the new 5v5 mode.
