Wargaming Snaps Up Fractured Space Devs for New MMO

Whenever we hear about an MMO game dev studio being shuttered, we always hope that they’ll find new work soon. In the case of the Fractured Space devs, that wish has certainly come true, as the studio has been picked up by the folks at Wargaming to help in the creation of an unannounced MMO title.

fractured space devs

Edge Case Games, who brought their online spaceship multiplayer title into maintenance mode, are now a part of Wargaming’s new UK office in Guildford. This move brings the total number of devs at this new location to 55, all of whom will be put to work on a new title for the publisher.

While information on what this new game is has not been revealed, Wargaming UK’s product director Sean Decker has cited Edge Case Games’ ability to “run free-to-play, vehicle-based MMOs, built on the Unreal tech stack” as a benefit to the studio’s efforts.

“We plan to grow the team over the next year to the size needed to build and run a world class F2P MMO, while continuing to work with other Wargaming teams, such as our Sydney studio,” said Decker.

Our Thoughts

We’d love to see Wargaming do something truly different with this new MMO of theirs, but something tells us it’s going to be another team-based vehicular combat affair. Then again why break what’s working, right? So with that in mind, here’s hoping that Edge Case Games’ vision of sci-fi makes this vehicular MMO something truly different.

Robocraft is Prototyping a Single-Player Campaign Mode

Games like Robocraft and Robocraft Royale are certainly more fun with others, but every now and again you need to unplug and just play a game by yourself. That’s where the in-development Robocraft Campaign mode comes into play.

robocraft campaign mode

The new feature is making its way in a “first draft” release this coming Thursday, October 11th. The intent with this early release is to collect constructive feedback on the mode’s direction as well as to shake down some bugs. With that in mind, the mode will be feature incomplete, offer only two or three campaigns, and will feature AI that isn’t as intelligent as it will be in its full release.

A dev blog from September offered some more insight into where Campaign mode will be going. The mode will essentially be wave survival, with four waves of enemies and a boss to fight in the fifth wave. Players will have up to five lives, though higher difficulty levels will pare that number down. Campaign modes can also feature build restrictions similar to Brawl mode.

As the mode develops, the team hopes to introduce different Campaign styles like Survival or Timed Elimination, as well as add multiple robot types in a single wave and more weapons fielded by the AI. If the Campaign mode is well received, there are also plans to create a feature that lets players build and share their own Campaigns.

Our Thoughts

First draft or not, this definitely sounds like an intriguing feature for Robocraft and a way to expand the game beyond simply being either an arena brawler or battle royale title. Here’s hoping this open testing pans out and the mode is liked enough to develop further!

World of Tanks Unveils New Merchandise for European Fans

Merchandising and video games are very obviously nothing new – just ask Overwatch. Now Wargaming has been further bitten by the merch bug with the reveal of new World of Tanks merchandise, including branded peripherals and other truly unique goodies for players in the European region.

world of tanks merchandise

World of Tanks has joined forces with Konix to release a number of branded peripherals, including two keyboards, four mice, two mouspads and two headsets. Each peripheral also comes packed with codes for in-game goodies like one of three tanks, a Garage slot and premium membership time.

As for the item pictured above, that’s the Sabaton Primo Victoria, a new tank model released by Colbi fashioned after the Swedish power metal band’s song of the same name. The set includes the tank, emblem and inscription stickers, along with in-game bonus and invite codes for World of Tanks.

Finally, the game itself is getting a physical collector’s edition. This new release packs in a 1/32 scale replica of the Tiger 131 tank, a gaming mouse, artbook, blueprints, lithographs, and a keychain. The edition also has a code for the same Tiger 131 to be used in-game.

The Sabaton tank can be found at the Wargaming Store and the Colbi website now, the peripherals will be available across Europe starting October 22nd, and the collector’s edition will be limited to only 5,130 releases on October 19th exclusively to the Wargaming storefront.

Our Thoughts

Awe, look at the adorable little power metal rockers! In all seriousness, though, we’re interested in knowing what sort of market there will be fore WoT-branded peripherals and whether the Konix brand is reliable. We also suspect the collector’s editions will sell like hotcakes.

World of Tanks: Mercenaries 4.6 Adds New Vehicles, Maps and Features

Registered console players for World of Tanks number 17 million, and while we’re not sure how many that translates into in terms of active players, World of Tanks: Mercenaries 4.6 is giving that number of players some new features and new vehicles to play around in.

world of tanks: mercenaries 4.6

For Artillery players, there’s a new Trajectory camera view that will help you line up your shot. This new view will bring the camera closer to the ground and rotates to follow the shell’s trajectory in relation to the tank’s pivoting point.

The new update will also introduce a highly requested health bar numbers option to both ally and enemy tanks, as well as three different Mercenary vehicles and their respective crews: the Thresher light tank; the heavy Long Reach tank; and the Sharpshooter medium tank. There’s also two new maps and two tier-ten vehicles for the Chinese and British tech trees.

Update 4.6 will arrive to Xbox One and PS4 players on Tuesday, August 28th.

Our Thoughts

Not exactly a barnburner of an update in terms of features, but we suspect a couple of this patch’s quality-of-life updates will be extremely welcome to regular players of this online vehicle battler. In which case, may these new features serve those tankers well.

War Thunder Kicks Off Operation S.U.M.M.E.R. 2018

Nothing says summertime quite like blowing one another into smitheroons in heavy armored vehicles! That’s what War Thunder‘s Operation S.U.M.M.E.R. 2018 event is offering players of the vehicular combat MMO, along with the ability to build themselves some sweet new tanks.

operations s.u.m.m.e.r. 2018

Operation S.U.M.M.E.R. 2018 will allow players of War Thunder to craft themselves a Soviet T-34E tank or an IS-7 tank. Players will have to complete a number of tasks to get blueprints for each vehicle, and then get the parts required to craft components by taking part in battles at certain ranks.

However, putting together the pieces needed for the tanks isn’t just a matter of automatically filling in a recipe. Players are being challenged to bring a little bit of know-how into the proceedings by sorting out which materials are actually required to craft the appropriate part. If you’re bad at this sort of thing, though, don’t worry; any combination of materials that result in an incorrect recipe will be returned to you. The announcement refers those who aren’t intimately familiar with the event’s tanks to refer to game’s official site or reach out to the community.

And hey, if you happen to be uninterested in the T-34E, you can trade in the voucher you get for completing the crafting process in for a voucher to get either the German Sd.Kfz. 234/4, the U.S. M8 Greyhound or the British AEC Mk.II. There’s also boosters, skins and other goodies to get during the event as well.

Operations S.U.M.M.E.R. runs until Sunday, August 5th. More details about the event can be found here.

Our Thoughts

Presumably, fans of War Thunder won’t find the hurdle of putting together materials in the right configuration to craft a tank part too much of a hassle, as usually these types of players like all of the schematic details associated with their favorite historic vehicles. That said, it also sounds a tiny bit like a needless hoop to jump through…but hey, fun is subjective.

World of Warships Sets Sail for Consoles

Blowing up one another in tanks on Xbox One and PS4 is pretty darn fun, but it could be wetter. Consider your liquid levels increased, then, as World of Warships console has been officially confirmed with a rough release window and plans for the naval battler to begin its alpha test.

World of Warships: Legends will be the official name of the console edition of the game. In addition to the ship-to-ship battling that the PC version of the game offers, World of Warships: Legends is promising to provide content and features exclusive to console players. What those features are, however, wasn’t detailed in the announcement.

An FAQ posted on the game’s forums does stress that World of Warships: Legends isn’t just a straight port of the PC version. “We’re creating a native console experience pretty much from scratch while sourcing content and resources from the PC version, which is of course, our main inspiration,” reads part of the FAQ. “This does streamline our development process quite a bit, since we can focus on delivering the best naval combat gameplay available within the console realm.”

The devs plan to start off alpha testing in July of this year. Console fans who are eager to try things out and (ideally) provide their feedback can sign up to be selected at the game’s new dedicated website. Fans can also find out more details about the game, including ships, progression, and map types, in the aforementioned FAQ there as well.

World of Warships: Legends is due to arrive sometime in 2019, with more information planned to be revealed at this year’s Gamescom event.

Our Thoughts

So our first thoughts turn to the need to command multiple weapons batteries and steer a battleship using a gamepad. That said, a game like Dreadnought seems to have sorted that same issue out reliably well and so we suspect the World of Warships devs should be able to handle the matter as well. We’re looking forward to finding out more!

World of Tanks Brings Back Soccer Mode for the 2018 World Cup

So there’s something of a small footballing event happening over in Russia. World of Tanks players on PC can also mark this small potatoes sports contest with the return of World of Tanks Soccer Mode, which has a couple of new adjustments for this year’s event.

world of tanks soccer mode

As before, Soccer Mode will play out in 3v3 matches with players taking up the positions of Defender, Midfielder or Striker in predetermined tanks. Top score at the end of the seven minute match wins, though if regular time ends on a draw, then the match goes into Golden Goal. If the game is still tied after that, the team with the most Possession Points for having the ball in the enemy’s side of the pitch is declared the winner.

New this time around is the aforementioned predetermined tanks with unique abilities to help them play their defined roles. After a goal is scored, players will also return to the center of the pitch so everyone starts off on even keel. In addition, the new mode will feature a third stadium named in honor of Soviet goalkeeper Lev Yashin and bring on the services of Italian goalie Gianluigi Buffon to offer commentary of the matches.

Soccer Mode is running from today, June 14th until Sunday, July 29th. More details can be found here or in the embedded informational video below.

Our Thoughts

Heck, if Rocket League and Overwatch can have some footballing fun, why not World of Tanks? Considering the season we’re in right now with the World Cup, this definitely is the right time for this kind of event and we hope that players of the mode have fun!

World of Tanks Console is Adding a Mercenary Nation

As a BattleTech fan, I’m certainly the kind of person who appreciates working for yourself as a mercenary. With the arrival of World of Tanks: Mercenaries to the console edition of the vehicle battler, players can also experience that same enjoyment of working on your own terms without scrounging for parts to field new equipment.

world of tanks: mercenaries

The Mercenaries update will essentially write its own history; one where nations have crumbled and soldiers and civilians must fight for themselves. Or as the press release puts it: “Anyone can be their own hero in the age of Mercenaries, and World of Tanks: Mercenaries invites players across the globe to join the fight.”

The new update will introduce a new Mercenary tech tree to the game with wholly unique armor cobbled together from parts of the now-dead global powers. Five of these tanks will be available at the launch of the update, with more vehicles planned in the weeks and months to come.

Mercenaries is also telling the story of its alternate history with a PvE campaign. The Heist will have you taking control of a mercenary group carrying out a contract on to steal nuclear material from a secret facility. The mission can be carried out solo or in online co-op. This new narrative is also carrying into the multiplayer space with new renditions of fan-favorite maps that have been ravaged by time and the conflict of this new history.

World of Tanks: Mercenaries is launching to Xbox One and PS4 on Tuesday, June 26th. Fans can read more on the update’s landing page and watch a teaser trailer below.

Our Thoughts

Alright, now this sounds interesting. We suspect there will be many players joining up with the Mercenary “nation” to see just how these slapdash new tanks fare against legitimate military vehicles and the whole overarching plotline for this update sounds like a good time.

Crossout Leviathan Mode Adds its Biggest Vehicles Yet

If you’re a regular player of the multiplayer vehicular combat battler Crossout, you’re probably already familiar with the titanic Leviathans that usually are bosses for the game’s PvE modes. But what would it be like to actually pilot one of these behemoths? Enter Crossout Leviathan Mode.

crossout leviathan mode

The new Clan Wars game mode will be a 4v4 dust-up between clans, with each Clan leader or group leader taking control of their own custom-built Leviathans and the remaining team members arriving as fire support in their own regular vehicles. These battles will be ranked, with the top 30 Clans getting some handsome Uranium rewards at the end of each week.

As one would expect, Leviathan-class creations have their own unique benefits and stats, with the ability to carry significantly more of everything a regular vehicle can as well as field unique weapons, armor, and support systems like shield generators and drones.

The update has also brought some other fixes and items to the game, so be sure to head to the patch notes for all of those details.

Our Thoughts

…awe, only one Leviathan per side? Well, that does make a bit of sense, considering having these lumbering metal behemoths populate the entire team would probably make for a slow fight. Still, the idea of giant wasteland killing machines clashing with one another is pretty intriguing sounding. Like Battlebots in video game form and with significantly more interesting weaponry.

Dreadnought PS4 Update Adds Three PC Patches Worth of Improvements

In an effort to bring Dreadnought’s PS4 version closer to parity with the PC version, the devs have tied together a full three previous PC patches into a single Dreadnought PS4 update that’s being described as one of the biggest to land on the game.

dreadnought ps4 update

To start, every customizable ship in Dreadnought now has two loadout slots that can be put together, letting players swap to different modules and appearances in and out of matches. Tech trees have also gotten some smoothing, with fewer branches to help players get to the higher tier ships they want faster.

The new update has also brought clearer on-screen displays of in-game stats and cleaner reticles; revamped versions of the pre- and post-match screens; and two new pre-built legendary ships in the form of the Naga corvette and the Phoenix corvette in the Sinley Bay market.

Full patch notes for the update are found here and a video summarizing and showing off these new features can be seen below.

Our Thoughts

While these updates aren’t exactly barnburners in terms of content, they certainly bring a whole lot of quality-of-life adjustments to the Dreadnought PS4 version. Which, we assume, is a welcome addition to players of the game. Here’s hoping that PS4 internet ship captains have fun in the battlefields.
