Vermintide 2 Free Weekend Event This Weekend

If you’re looking for something to do this weekend then you might want to check out the Vermintide 2 free weekend event that has already started. From November 21 to the 24th you’ll be able to play the co-op Warhammer game completely free on Steam. You’ll also be able to play all of the DLCs for free if you’re invited by a player who owns the game and DLC.

“We are excited to bring Steam users the chance to play Vermintide 2” says Martin Wahlund, CEO Fatshark. “This will be a good opportunity to get into the battle and help the heroes fend off the Skaven and Chaos hordes.”

Throughout the weekend if you decide you like the game you’ll be able to buy the game for 75% off. The DLC as well as the collector’s edition are also on sale on Steam. You can get all of this on the official Vermintide 2 Steam page.

If you’re a little bit on the fence about the game check out our review of the base game which came out early last year. The reviewer still loves Vermintide as much as he did when he reviewed it, possibly even a bit more thanks to the expansions. I know this because I’m married to him. So, if you’re a fan of Warhammer or Left 4 Dead and you haven’t given Vermintide 2 a try yet this weekend is your chance. You won’t regret it.

Vermintide 2 – Winds of Magic is Now Live

Vermintide 2 – Winds of Magic is the latest update to the award-winning, multimillion-selling game Warhammer Vermintide 2 and it is out now.

Winds of Magic is the first expansion to Vermintide 2 to bring in a new enemy faction, Beastmen. Along with Beastmen, you’ll find a raised level cap, new weapons for all heroes, leaderboards, a new level, and a new game mode.

“Warning heroes – the Beastmen have arrived, and they bring malice with them. Pick up the new weapons, and help me put a stop to this invasion of ruthless enemies.” says Bardin Goreksson, self-proclaimed leader of the Ubersreik Five group of heroes.

You can find Winds of Magic on Steam right now. But, if you’re on the fence about the expansion check out the badass trailer below.

This is of course not the Versus that was revealed at E3 this year. It is still early days for that and beta signups are still open. Versus is being developed by a separate team within Fat Shark so that it doesn’t slow down the development of the game in any way. When we hear more about that we’ll be sure to run through the streets screaming in glee.

For now, though we get to enjoy Winds of Magic. Fatshark CEO Martin Wahlund had this message for fans and beta testers. “Release day is the most exciting day in game development, and here we are today. Warhammer: Vermintide 2 – Winds of Magic is available now, ready for heroes to excel. Winds of Magic would not have been possible without the feedback from our beta tests, and we want to thank all beta players who helped us deliver the best version of Winds of Magic.”

E3 2019: PC Gaming Show Press Conference

The PC Gaming Show at E3 2019 is now done and from the looks of it, 4v4 and small team games are the in thing right now. We also got a glimpse of an all-new survival MMO and Warframe’s next expansion. Below you’ll find everything multiplayer that was revealed at the PC Gaming Show this year.

Midnight Ghost Hunt

If Ghostbusters were a multiplayer game it would be Midnight Ghost Hunt, a 4v4 game where you’re either a ghost or you’re a hunter. For the first 4 minutes of a match hunters are going after ghosts, defeating them as they enter objects to hide. But the ghosts aren’t going down without a fight. This is a prop hunter game where the props fight back. If any ghosts survive to the 4-minute mark in this giant game of hide and seek then the tides of battle turn and the ghosts get the upper hand. All of the ghosts, even those who have been defeated come back more powerful than before. These spirits aren’t happy and the hunters become the hunted.

Conan Chop Chop

A stick figure Conan game, yes, you have heard of that before. Funcom announced Conan Chop Chop as an April Fools Day joke, but it turns out that it wasn’t a joke at all. The game is being developed by Mighty Kingdom and published by Funcom. It’s a roguelike hack-and-slash game with 1-4 players in co-op. Conan Chop Chop, the game you never knew you needed until now will be launching on September 3rd for PC, Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Nintendo Switch.

Last Oasis

A nomadic survival MMO that is set in a future post-apocalyptic world where the world has stopped turning and there is only a wasteland of darkness or light. Only a small strip in between is habitable. The remnants of humanity have built a large walking city. The game is being made by Donkey Crew, an indie studio that started as a passionate group of Mount & Blade modders. Last Oasis is set to enter Steam Early Access on September 3rd.

Vermintide 2 Versus

4v4 is coming to Vermintide 2 turning you into the Skaven and other enemies from Vermintide 2. You can sign up to take part in the beta right now on the official site. “The player has always been the hero of the game, but in the Versus mode, players will now be able to play as the enemy factions.” says Martin Wahlund, CEO Fatshark. “Versus is a competitive game mode where two separate teams of four players take turns playing as the enemies and heroes.”The next expansion for the game is also coming this August.

Warframe

We got our first trailer for Warframe’s upcoming expansion Empyrean ahead of the full reveal of the expansion at TennoCon on July 6th. This expansion was previously called Railjack and had a whole lot of hype in the community.

Vermintide 2 Celebrates Halloween with Geheimnisnacht

In a world menaced by Chaos-driven fiends and snarling, huge rat-people, you probably don’t need a Halloween. In fact, you probably need a holiday where all you do is stay safe indoors and eat cookies. The Vermintide 2 Geheimnisnacht holiday, however, has no cookies. It has darkness.

vermintide 2 geheimnisnacht

For those who aren’t familiar with the lore, this particular holiday marks a time when the twin moons of Mannslieb and Morrslieb are full and the veil between worlds is at its thinnest. It also is said to be a time where magic as at its most potent.

What this means for the game of Vermintide 2 is that every map in the online slash-em-up will be covered in darkness, with no daylight to be seen from now until November 4th. There will also be an event quest that rewards a unique portrait frame, a thematic dressing-up of Thaal’s Horn Keep, and the re-opening of the Trophy Room.

The update that has brought the Geheimnisnacht holiday with it has also introduced a number of tweaks and bug fixes. The complete changelog can be found here.

Our Thoughts

Boy, that is a heck of a word to type out multiple times in a row. We do hope that players of Vermintide 2 enjoy Geheimnisnacht, but we can’t help but feel that this is a bit of a missed opportunity: after all, a game like this just oozes with the sort of style that screams Halloween. Perhaps next year…

Shadows over Bögenhafen DLC for Vermintide 2 Releases

The thing about cursed objects is that stuffing them into a closet doesn’t suddenly make them not cursed. This is a lesson the citizens of Bögenhafen are learning all too well, and as usual it’s up to the player heroes to clean up the mess. That’s the setup for today’s Shadows over Bögenhafen DLC release for Vermintide 2. More or less.

Shadows over Bögenhafen dlc

Shadows over Bögenhafen introduces players of the co-op critter slasher to the titular town, which has fallen under the curse of the Blightreaper, a pestilent blade that has brought a Nurgle infestation. The task: cleave through the threats, find the Blightreaper, and perhaps see it unmade.

The new DLC adds two new levels for players to cut through in the form of The Pit and The Cleansing, along with a number of new challenges and quests to overcome. Rewards added in this DLC include new skins, portrait frames, Illusions and hats. Those who own the DLC can even invite players who don’t have the expansion pack into their runs.

Unsurprisingly, developer Fatshark’s CEO Martin Wahlund is pretty excited. “Shadows over Bögenhafen adds even more compelling content that should challenge and satisfy even the most hardened players,” says Wahlund in a statement. “After the huge success with the release of Warhammer: Vermintide 2 we remain focused on supporting the game with new content and experiences.”

The DLC is arriving today on Steam for those who are interested. There’s also a release trailer that sets the scene you can view below.

Our Thoughts

We’re not sure two levels is a lot for a DLC’s release, but then again those could be some pretty compelling two levels regardless. In any case, for fans of this particular online co-op game, we hope they have a good time in Bögenhafen one can in a plague-ridden city.

Vermintide 2 Announces the Shadows over Bogenhafen DLC

If you’re a regular player of the multiplayer rat-poking simulator Vermintide 2, you’ve probably near max in terms of advancement and ready for whatever’s next. We now know just what that next is with the reveal of the Shadows over Bogenhafen DLC, which has a release date and…that’s about it, honestly.

shadows over bogenhafen dlc

There aren’t an awful lot of details about this new DLC yet in terms of content, but the announcement quotes Fatshark CEO Martin Wahlund as saying that players “will be tested like never before by Grandfather Nurgle’s unpleasant attentions.”

The announcement also promises that this coming fall season will see more content arriving to Vermintide 2 overall, though once again is mum on the details of what that content will look like and when it will specifically release.

What we can say for sure is that Shadows over Bogenhafen will release on Tuesday, August 28th for PC and Xbox One. The vagueness otherwise continues with the teaser trailer below.

Our Thoughts

We really wish we had more to report here, but then again having a release date for the next DLC isn’t exactly bad to hear about regardless. Here’s hoping that we’ll get some more firm details on what the fall updates and new DLC will bring to this slice (get it?) of multiplayer co-op gaming.

MMOGames’ Most Anticipated MMO of 2018

Here we are at the end of another year of gaming. It certainly had its ups and downs, just take a look at the most popular news stories to see. 2018 is already starting to look incredibly exciting so we asked the writers and Editorial team at MMOGames what their most anticipated MMO of 2018 is.

Hannah Richardson-Lewis

I’ve been thinking a fair bit about my most anticipated MMO of 2018 recently and I have honestly come to the conclusion that I’m not really “hyped” for anything. MMOs are definitely in a strange place at the moment, but that being said, there is certainly some intriguing stuff on the horizon. Crowfall, Chronicles of Elyria, and Ascent: Infinite Realm are all games I will be watching closely. However, my most anticipated MMO is still World of Warcraft. It is my MMORPG home, and I will definitely be playing Battle For Azeroth. Anduin is cool now, okay?

Nick Shively

crowfall livestream

The MMO that I’m most looking forward to in 2018 is one that I’ve had my eye on for quite some time: Crowfall. It’s finally to the stage where the actual game is going to start coming together. Until this point, ArtCraft has been building a foundation for a potentially great game, but there hasn’t been a whole lot of interesting content to playtest. Crowfall was expected to soft launch in 2017 but that wasn’t to be the case and honestly, I wasn’t really surprised at the delay. There is still a lot of work that needs to be done to the game, but I don’t mind waiting for it to be polished and we should see some type of public release in 2018.

Rissa Trent

I’m really looking forward to Dual Universe – it might be a worthy competitor for Star Citizen. It may also pave the way for more sandbox MMORPGs, and honestly, we can’t have enough of those. It’ll give the players a chance to forge their own alliances and write their own story rather than having the game write it for them, and honestly, I think that’s the way MMOs should be heading.

Hendrik Cone

My most anticipated for 2018 has to be Crowfall. I am not personally invested in the PvP side of things which may make the pick very odd but I can’t wait to see it all come together. There’ve been a few crowdfunded MMOs in recent memory but this is the one that always sticks in memory for me between the technology used, the pedigree behind it and the potential of it all going forward. All of that, but come on, we know the real reason why Crowfall will be the game of 2018. The world loves Porgs at the moment. Guineceans, your moment is now. Come up from your burrows, holster those pistols and let the world see your glory.

Shannon Doyle

The MMO I’m most anticipating in 2018 is Stardew Valley multiplayer. What? That isn’t an MMO? Well, it should be. Okay, okay…the game I’m actually most looking forward to is only very loosely an MMO, it’s Niantic’s Harry Potter Wizards Unite. A mobile game that follows in the footsteps of Ingress and Pokemon Go before it. I’ve been a big fan of Ingress since it was announced back in 2013. I was also one of the legions of fans who tried out Pokemon Go when it first came out. I still have the game installed on my phone but living so far from a city, I don’t really play it. My hope is that Niantic learns from Pokemon Go and takes inspiration from Ingress to make a game that people can really enjoy wherever they are, even if they don’t have a Pokestop nearby. I also hope that it is embraced by the world the way Pokemon Go was, but maybe this time they’ll stick around? At least if things don’t go well, I’ll still have Stardew Valley multiplayer.

LagunaLevine

My most anticipated online game for 2018? I’ll optimistically go with Crowfall. I’m not doing so many MMOs these days (call it a holdover from my time in Japan that emphasized local multiplayer), but the idea of a “lobby game” which has a persistent lobby feels right. I loved the old World of Warcraft Alterac Valley map when each BG match took at least a day or longer to complete. It had that world PvP feel without people complaining about getting “ganked” when they clearly chose a PVP server. I’m more on console so it may not stick, but hey, Overwatch gets my attention, and I largely play that solo despite owning it on PS4 as well.

"massive" update

MMOs are dead! Long live Games as a Service!

Actually, no, I’m full of it. 2018 in MMO gaming can certainly seem piecemeal, but ultimately there are more than a few titles that tipped their hats at us this year that have me looking forward to the next year in my beloved genre. After considering several of them, my mind keeps going back to one title in particular that always stands out to me: Crowfall.

Not only does this one feel like a PvP sandbox that I could probably stomach, it also appears to be one that actually wants me – the softest of sheep – to play the way I want to play in terms of crafting. Crafters are valued and necessary to the war effort and that’s more than most MMOs out now can say. Plus the game’s style of RvR has me intrigued to see if Crowfall is the missing piece to make me fully appreciate sandbox-style MMOs.

To the point of 2018, I think we’ll start to see crowdfunded games finally wrap development and release, further legitimizing crowdfunding as an honest way to make dream titles come true and not another winking scam artist looking to cash in.

Except for Star Citizen. That damn thing’s never coming out.

You may have seen there was a bit of a theme for MMOGames’ most anticipated MMO of 2018. There’s a whole lot of hype for Crowfall. There was also a lot of discussion about crowdfunding and the future. There’ll be even more of it in our predictions for 2018, which will be out after Christmas.

The MMO Alpha and Beta List: September 1st, 2017

September is here and I hate to be THAT person but that means there are only 4 months left in 2017. We can see this reflected in the news about upcoming beta events, even. Studios have been announcing games that will have betas in 2018 with more and more regularity. With that said, let’s get into the MMO Alpha and Beta list for this week.

This week’s example of that is Fringe Wars which is set to go into beta Spring 2018.

Vermintide 2 was announced this week, more information is expected in October so it’s a pretty safe bet that testing will stretch into 2018.

Hyper Universe The MMO Alpha and Beta List: September 1st, 2017

Hyper Universe

This week Hyper Universe and JCB Pioneer: Mars both started Early Access.

Dead Alliance launched.

And MU Legend’s Open Beta has been delayed again, this time until November.

Finally, Ashes of Creation announced that you will be able to play the Alpha starting December 15th.

As always there is all of this and much more in the list below. Keep an eye out for the new  flag to find everything that was newly added this week.
