As many fans likely know, a livestream talking all about what’s coming in Destiny 2: Warmind happened yesterday afternoon. If you weren’t there for the broadcast or would rather not sit and watch a VOD, the folks at Bungie have very kindly summed up all of the reveals.
In Warmind, players are headed to a new section of Mars where the AI entity known as Rasputin has awoken, setting off a chain reaction of events that’s revealed the Warmind’s birthplace. Players will be working with Ana Bray, who will be both the vendor and the connecting thread to the Clovis Bray corporation that developed Rasputin.
In addition to the story beats of the new expansion, a new end game feature known as Escalation Protocol will be introduced. Described as a sort of controllable public event, Escalation Protocol tasks players with activating a pillar, surviving seven waves of enemies, and finally taking down one of five unique final bosses. Rewards for seeing the end of these events include completely unique weapons, though the devs state that this activity is going to present a hefty challenge.
Warmind will also herald the arrival of two new Crucible ranks in the form of the casual progression of Valor and the competitive ladder of Glory; the launch of private Crucible matches; and the introduction of Exotic adjustments that promises “everything will be stronger, faster, and better” for this tier of weaponry.
Destiny 2: Warmind will make its way to players on Tuesday, May 8th. A story trailer for the expansion can be seen below.
On paper, it all sounds good. But to be fair, it also all sounded good on paper when Curse of Osiris was headed to release and that turned out…less than good. We’re certainly intrigued by all that’s coming, though, and we’ll be looking forward to learning more about what Warmind will be bringing to help revitalize Destiny 2.
