Rumor: MapleStory 2’s Western Release is Imminent

Things on the MapleStory 2 Western release front have been pretty silent since we last reported on a job posting in November of 2016. Perhaps now, though, fans can spin up a wee bit of excitement ahead of a couple of intriguing reveals that could mean the game is headed to our shores.

maplestory 2 western release

Nexon announced back on Monday, March 12th that MapleStory will be getting its first-ever convention called MapleStory Fest this coming Saturday, April 14th at Los Angeles, CA. In the announcement, fans were promised “exclusive announcements about the future of MapleStory” along with other events and activities.

This news alone could just as easily be about updates for MapleStory 1, but the folks at noticed that a new job posting from Nexon America for a temporary QA tester appeared two days after the convention’s announcement. Among the duties said tester will be responsible for are “testing all features, functionality, and localization of the assigned games.”

Once again, this job posting could just as easily be about upcoming MapleStory 1 content as it could be about a MapleStory 2 release outside of China and Korea, so we advise a healthy level of skepticism with this information, as always.

Our Thoughts

Skepticism or not, these facts do seem to hold hands pretty well. Furthermore, we won’t have long to wait until April 14th rolls around and we all finally learn just what sort of reveals the MapleStory folks will have in store for everyone. Here’s hoping the sequel does head West, though – in my opinion, the MMO world could always use more cute.

En Masse Announces Western Release of Online ARPG Closers

En Masse Entertainment has just announced today that a new online action RPG is on the way with the Closers Western release. The upcoming game will let anime and ARPG fans take up the roles of several powerful psychic teens as they battle against interdimensional threats in New Seoul.

closers western release

Described as an episodic online ARPG, Closers lets players take up the role of one of five members of the Black Lambs: Seha, a combat genius; Sylvi, the group’s leader; Yuri, a newly empowered martial artist; Misteltein, a young boy with support powers; and J, the veteran member with a dark past. Players will get to play through a branching narrative, upgrading their powers and weapons and learning new skills all while they fight against an unnamed “gargantuan” threat.

Closers is set to begin a series of closed alpha tests in September and will move forward into a beta phase sometime in the Fall. Those who are interested in finding out more and want to register for the closed alpha can do so on the game’s official website. You can also check out a trailer of the game in action below.

Our Thoughts

Part Dungeon Fighter Online, part anime, all action. This is definitely a boisterous title we weren’t anticipating to come to our shores, but then again En Masse is developing something of a penchant for bringing pretty unique online games to the West. Are you curious to learn more about Closers or is this one a hard pass for you?
