Do you remember Wild Buster: Heroes of Titan? The MMOARPG that was taken off of Steam after publisher Insel Games was found manipulating reviews? Well, it’s come back in a new form with the start of the Champions of Titan closed beta. Guess time truly can heal all wounds.
The re-launched MMO is now under the stewardship of IDC Games, who handle MMOs and online multiplayer games like Zula and Spellweaver and are now kicking off the first closed beta test of Champions of Titan.
Champions of Titan promises action-oriented MMO/MOBA style combat with plenty of PvE missions, dungeons and raids, and PvP in the form of DotA-style gameplay, battle royale and FFA, along with 5v5 and 10v10 squad leagues.
CBT will be running for the next few weeks and will move on to an open beta phase later in the summer. In the meantime, people who are interested in joining in can register or learn more about the game on this website or get a general idea of what it’s offering with the trailer below.
Well, maybe the second time is the charm? That all said, this relaunched edition of the game doesn’t look too dissimilar from the game that was being released before, though apparently with decidedly less Duke Nukem.
As the trailer that’s come along for the ride states, “MMORPG and hack’n’slash made a baby in space”. That baby is the Wild Buster Steam early access launch, which is bringing its fast-paced MMOARPG action to the platform in its next phase of development.
Wild Buster offers up players the chance to take control of 12 different characters ranging from snipers to melee specialists to, of course, Serious Sam and Duke Nukem from their respective FPS titles.
Combat in Wild Buster is described as an affair that will require use of each hero’s unique skills and dodge rolling to avoid damage, while gameplay lets players take on enemies by themselves, in groups of 5, and in raid dungeons. There’s also a crafting system to maximize earned loot and a 5v5 PvP arena known as the Squad League.
Wild Buster: Heroes of Titan is offered on Steam in three different editions and is providing a 20% discount on the title in celebration of its early access release. You can find out more about the game on its website and check out the aforementioned trailer below.
Wild Buster certainly looks like its a fast-paced good time, but we’re also curious to learn whether there’s enough in the game that really sets it apart from other MMOARPGs beyond “we have Duke Nukem in our roster”. He’s either an iconic part of your PC gaming history or the relic of a stupider time in the FPS genre. He’s Duke Nukem and he’s most definitely in the action MMOARPG Wild Buster. The proof is in a new Wild Buster hero highlight video that shows The Man himself in action.
The video shows Duke Nukem mowing down groups of alien foes with a variety of mid-range and melee abilities. In the video, Duke is described as a wielder of a broad selection of weapons, including bazookas, bombs, grenade throwers, EMPs, and rifles. Or as the video puts it, “think big guns and giant explosions”.
The video is the latest in a series of similar highlights that show members of the game’s roster in action, including Serious Sam, the Judgement Shooter, and more.
Wild Buster: Heroes of Titan will be making its way to Steam Early Access this coming Thursday, December 14th. As a thank-you to those who pre-ordered the game or backed its Indiegogo campaign, a head start will be granted on Wednesday, December 13th. Those who are part of the beta through a giveaway will also have access to this head start, though their access will be revoked once early access begins.
Feel free to hail to the king – or not – in the video below.
Duke doesn’t really seem to be a standout beyond being a name in terms of other mid-ranged ARPG attackers. Still, there’s likely going to be a fair number of people who are excited for his arrival as well as looking forward to the early access launch of Wild Buster. In any case, we hope those players have an awesome time.
Today officially marks the start of Wild Buster alpha testing provided you’ve tossed your money at the crowdfunding campaign. The action MMORPG has begun its first phase of testing as funding on Indiegogo presses on.
Starting today, October 2nd and running until Monday, October 9th, every backer of the game will be able to get their first taste of Wild Buster. Content includes 14 of the MMO’s collection of heroes and an indeterminate number of co-op dungeons.
Insel Games has also extended its crowdfunding drive, adding another three weeks in order to fund ongoing development and localization work according to the game’s Indiegogo page. As of this writing, Wild Buster is 42% away from its full goal of $10k.
Here’s hoping that players of Wild Buster enjoy their time as well as check in with their thoughts and bug reports. We’re honestly hoping for some more features such as video or other details, particularly since Insel Games is looking for additional funding. A little information would likely go a long way.
In what’s probably the single most unlikely mash-up in MMO gaming history, developer Insel Games has revealed that Duke Nukem himself will be joining the cast of Wild Buster characters. Something something bubble gum and ass.
Insel’s CEO Patrick Streppel reasons that the character’s arrival to Wild Buster: Heroes of Titan is actually a pretty perfect fit when you think about it. “With Duke’s well-established reputation of being the unorthodox underdog hero and defender of humanity, he fits perfectly in the gritty but tongue-in-cheek sci-fi universe of Wild Buster,” said Streppel in a statement. “We are happy that Gearbox immediately saw that fit.”
According to Streppel, Duke’s arrival to the game’s playable roster marks the first step in getting “other iconic characters” added to the game, though the announcement did not elaborate on who those characters may be.
Wild Buster: Heroes of Titan is currently seeking $10k on Indiegogo for its Western release. It currently sits at over $2k with 22 days left to its campaign as of this writing.
Well, we suppose Duke wasn’t really doing much nowadays anyway. What we’re most intrigued by is the whole part about adding “other iconic characters”. What other franchises could Wild Buster draw from in order to further fill out its roster?
